The Home and School Association fosters collaboration between parents and teachers. Parents of students and teachers are members of the Association that meets a minimum of four times per year. Families are invited and encouraged to attend meetings and to participate in the Association functions
Service Hours
Each family is contributes 25 hours of service per school year. A plethora of opportunities are provided by HASA, the school, and the parish. Any skills can be put to use supporting the students, staff, and overall school community. Especially needed are office and teacher support, recess chaperones, and lunch room monitors. Various events throughout the school year are held and can be convenient for parents and guardians who usually cannot volunteer during regular school hours. Setting up an cleaning after HASA meetings, sorting and bagging donations during food drives, and helping to coordinate events (such as Trunk or Treat and the Christmas concert) are a few examples. You can even help virtually by volunteering with the web maintenance and social media teams!
To work directly with the students or chaperone a trip, the volunteer must complete the Archdiocese of Washington Child Protection Program. This includes fingerprinting, a background check, and a three-hour workshop sponsored by the Archdiocese.
Volunteers are required to sign in upon arrival and wear a visitors pass while serving in the school.
Room Parents
Under the guidance of our Room Parent Coordinator, parent volunteers help with holiday events, parties, and other tasks in the classrooms. Each year, we request the help of two parents per classroom. HASA provides funds for supplies. The room parent volunteers supply the time, manpower, organization, and management of events with the teachers and students. Any parent or guardian can fill this need! Please remember to complete your VIRTUS training, background check, and fingerprinting prior to your first event.
Fundraising
We are expanding our fundraising activities! Please submit any ideas and proposals for fundraising activities to the HASA President, Vicki Edmister at [email protected].
In accordance with the Archdiocesan Board of Education, an Advisory Board consists of the Pastor, Principal, a faculty member, parents, and community members who set direction for the school.
Strategic planning, marketing, and development are included in discussions from which policies are established. Final policy decisions rest with the Pastor and Principal.
