Our team consists of five middle school students in grades 7 and 8, selected by teacher recommendations and students' interests. We meet weekly in December and January to practice trivia questions that focus on Spelling, math, science, geography, history, mythology, religion, and pop culture. The team prepares to compete against other area Catholic Schools at the DeMatha Catholic High school annual Academic Challenge.
This fun academic challenge is the culmination of our hard work and practice and is a great time for our students to showcase their knowledge of both academic and cultural knowledge.
Not only is it important to have a healthy and active mind, but a healthy and active body too! Our students and their families showed they agree through the great success our the promo dance class provided on February 16, 2022.
Sign up for weekly hip hop dance lessons provided during after care by Ms. Zuri Foreman. This is a 10-week program, beginning March 9, 2022. Each student must be registered for the Extended Care Program (Aftercare) for 1 day per week. You can find the extended care rates here. The dance class itself has only a $25 registration fee! Thank you, Ms. Zuri, for sharing your talent and passion!
Academic and physical education are important parts of a well rounded student and citizen. Also important is the ability and willingness to serve. Our scholars and staff show their servant hearts in many ways. Led by Sister Rudek and her 4th grade class, the entire school supplied 20 medium duffel bags filled with hygiene items, art supplies, and personal notes of encouragement for foster kids of Prince George's County. During Lent, students go home with Rice Bowls for Catholic Relief Services. They prayerfully donate with their families to aid those who may not be able to afford food for themselves. Annually, the school participates in a St. Jude Math-a-thon to support the researchers, health care providers, and families of St. Jude hospitals. Sadly, we were unable to participate in the 2020-2021 school year, but we fully intend to step back up and give them our support!
